SOLARSTOVE
solarstove
Solarstove is both a cooker and a heater, it absorbs and magnifies sunlight and then releases this heat slowly. The product was designed in response to a brief set by the Audi Foundation seeking design led solutions to dangerous cooking problems within the South African township of Kylesha.
The product is produced from local waste materials, including lime - a plentiful extract from the paper industry and can be manufactured by the townships local craftsmen.

The stove is placed in direct sunlight throughtout the day, absorbing and storing sunlight into its ceramic element. Later the stove can be used for cooking a family meal and heat continues to be released into the evening where the object flips on to its sides and radiates heat through the home.

The project was shortlisted internally within Northumbria University in 2005 by local North-East designers and I am currently seeking an implementation partner for the project.
