GLIDE / CERAMIC TOASTER

glide

There has been little development of the toaster since the start of the century, whilst other appliances have developed and improved incorporating new technologies toasters have remained relatively untouched. When the toaster was first invented having breakfast was a social event that took place around the breakfast table, today toasters have been relegated to cheap plastic objects hidden away in the kitchen.

Glide is designed to celebrate the breakfast ritual, providing an engaging spectacle and domestic focus. I was also keen to make a playful object that you would be proud to display on your dining table. Slip moulded porcelain allowed me create this intricate and sculptural form whilst also giving the object a sense of longevity and value.

This is a toaster that brings life and joy to a stagnant domestic appliance, an iconic object for the home.
